A Siloam Springs family honored the life of their beloved brother and son, one year after his tragic death.

19-year-old Dustin Chamberlain was a sophomore at Baylor University, studying to become a doctor.

"December 15, 2011 our son Dustin was shot and killed during our home invasion," Deondra Chamberlain, Dustin's mom.

"At that time when I first found him, I didn't think I could go on and... here it is 365 days later and time has helped but it goes back to our circle of friends, just a support structure that we have had that has helped us to get to where we are today," said Don Chamberlain, Dustin's dad.

Exactly one year since his tragic passing, family and friends gathered Saturday to honor his Heavenly Birthday and a life lost too soon.

"We felt so comforted by all their prayers and thoughts, and just how they've supported us through this and we're just excited as we take on this new adventure of Dustin's Dream," said Danae Chamberlain, Dustin's sister.

Dustin's Dream foundation is helping build a clinic in Guatemala City and providing scholarships for students going into the medical field.

"Dustin had a passion for serving Jesus Christ... Getting through the tragedy, we wanted to focus on something positive because we did believe God was in control and even though this evil thing happened, some good things could come about," said Deondra.

And Dustin's spirit, is still soaring through the hearts of many.

"It just shows you the impact that Dustin had on a whole community," said Danae.

"Even though I may be partial that he was my son, but he was an outstanding young man," said Don.

"We're going to have some good memories of December 15 now," said Deondra.
