Dachshunds race to the finish, an icy hound rescue and the world's tallest female dog. Here is Friday's edition of "Over the Edge News".

The sport of kings has gone to the dogs as thousands turn out in San Diego for the 16th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals. Eight dachshunds raced down a 56-foot track for a $1,000 prize. Oscar, a brown wiener dog from Tucson, finished first, winning by a nose.

Bart the walker hound is one lucky dog. After wandering away from his owner on an afternoon walk, he fell through the ice on lake Erie. The owner's cousin waded into the frigid water to keep bart from sinking 'till help could arrive. After an hour and a half, rescue crews were able to reach the two by boat. Neither Bart nor his new best friend were seriously hurt.

And if those two dog stories weren't enough, here's another dog from Chandler, Arizona.
According to Guinness world records, Bella, the Great Dane, is the tallest female dog in the world.  She stands just a little over 3 feet, from the ground to the top of her shoulder. Bella's owner says he was inspired to call Guinness after seeing the former record holder for the world's tallest dog, Giant George.
