Northwestern State entered Bud Walton arena with the second best scoring average in the nation, Saturday night Arkansas shut down the high octane Demon attack, holding it to a season low 61 points.

"I can't say enough about our defense," head coach Mike Anderson said. "You got to remember Northwestern State is a team that averages 88 points per game playing against some pretty decent teams."

Fourteen Northwestern State turnovers lead to 17 points for the Razorback offense, BJ Young netted a near season high with 26 points and a career best 13 rebounds.

"He was phenomenal," Demon head coach Mike McConathy said. "13 rebounds 26 points and 7-8 from the foul line that's a good nights work isn't it? I bet they'll keep him around won't they?"
"BJ was rebounding in traffic and pushing the ball from coast to coast weather he got to the basket or got others involved," Anderson added. "We were able to keep the tempo up and down and I got a couple rebounds and we were able to push it before the defense got back and I got some easy buckets in transition," BJ Young added.

Hunter Mickelson matched Young in rebounds on the night, and junior guard Mardracus Wade finished as the only other Hog in double figures scoring 17 points, 14 of which came in the first half

"His energy and some of the exciting plays he made helped the whole team just rise us," Young said. "He's starting to put some games together and that to me is what its about is consistency, and I'm proud of that and his defense, cause I think he's got a chance to be one of the better defensive guards in our conference," Anderson said of Wade's play defensively.

With the win over Northwestern State Arkansas improves to 8-4 on the year, just one game remains for the Hogs before conference play begins against Texas A&M.
