Seven at 7:00: $1.2 Million Rogers Home up in Flames, Adoption Roadblock for Local Family

Rogers $1.2 Million House Fire

Around 40 firefighters responded to the three alarm fire at the home on12 Pinnacle Drive Tuesday. The home is located in the gated Pinnacle Hills community. Firefighters believe the fire started in the attic from the chimney. No one was hurt but the family was evacuated and the house is a total loss. 

Lowell Flue Fire

The Rogers fire wasn't the only house fire Tuesday night. A fire there forced a family from their home after at about 5:30 Tuesday evening.Two fire departments moved in on the chimney fire at Colvin Place.The family evacuated after the house filled with smoke. Firefighters say no one was hurt.

Fiscal Cliff Compromise

In a new year's night vote, the house passed the "fiscal cliff" compromise bill from the senate.The bill passed by a vote of 257-to-167.The legislation is now headed to the White House to be signed by President Obama.The bill levees higher taxes on upper income Americans, which the President wanted. Many republicans were against the bill because, while raising taxes, it provides no net cuts in spending.

Adoption Roadblock for Bella Vista Family

New information on a local family fighting to bring their adopted daughter home from Russia. It seems Kendra and Jason Skaggs will now, not, be allowed to bring 5-year-old Polina home to Bella Vista. As we've exclusively reported, the Skaggs have been battling the Russian government over a ban on U.S. adoptions in the country. After first being told they were far enough into the adoption process to bypass the ban, the family learned this weekend that the decision was reversed. On her blog, Kendra says she's angry, hurt and sad. Still, she vows to continue her fight.

Capital Murder Case Update

On Monday, a judge denied bond for three of the four people charged in the Washington County beating death of Prairie Grove man, Ronnie Bradley. Deputies say Heather Swain, James Patton, and brothers Anthony and Timothy Swinford admitted to beating the victim and leaving him in a driveway. Investigators found Bradley's body in the driveway of a home on Four Corners Road in Prairie Grove. They say alcohol was involved and that the victim knew the suspects. Swain will be in court this Friday. All four will be arraigned January 30th.

Power Outage Update

More than a week since the Christmas day storm knocked out power to hundreds of thousands in central Arkansas, Entergy is finally scaling crews back. Now that all of the heavy lifting is done, the power company is starting to send hundreds of linemen home. As of Wednesday morning, fewer than 100 customers were still in the dark. The utility company says it's working to keep up with a handful of new outages still popping up.

Christmas Tree Recycling

So, you're ready to take down your Christmas tree but not sure what to do with it? If you live in Fayetteville, you can just put your "real" tree out on the curb for collection, free of charge through January 12th. And in Benton County, you can send your tree to "swim with the fishes." Live Christmas trees will be used as a fish habitat in Swepco lake. Just take your tree to the county's solid waste facility in Centerton. Just make sure to clean off all of your ornaments and tinsel ahead of time.
