Murder charges are pending after a Eureka Springs woman was found shot to death.

The Carroll County Sheriff says Laura Aceves, 21, was found lying in a pool of blood in her apartment at 15096 Highway 62 West around 12:40 p.m. Monday.

Aceves, who appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers, where she later died. Sheriff Robert T. Grudek says a metal object was also lodged in her head.

While serving a search warrant at the woman's home, investigators located the .22 caliber round.

An 18-year-old man was named a possible suspect and arrested at 5820 Highway 62 West in Berryville for violation of a no-contact order. Officers say they found the suspect hiding in a shower with the handgun.

Aceves' body has been sent to the Arkansas State Police medical examiner's office in Little Rock for an autopsy. Sheriff Grudek says his office is awaiting results to determine if murder charges should be filed.
