The Center for Disease Control says this could be one of the worst flu seasons in decades.

Dr. Josh Rankin with First Care Clinic in Bentonville said he's already seeing the virus.

"I've been seeing flu where I work for about a month now," said Rankin.

The flu doesn't discriminate, either. There are groups at higher risks than others. Kids six months all the way to the elderly are more susceptible to the flu.  Pregnant women are also at a high risk for the virus.

"People with more chronic conditions, like lung conditions, heart conditions, all of these will increase the severity that the flu can cause so those people are at an increased risk," said Rankin.

But if you are scared of getting stuck, there are other ways to prevent the illness other than getting the flu shot.

"Just washing your hands, coughing into your elbow can prevent the spread of influenza," said Rankin.

An ounce of prevention, and a quick prick, could keep you and your family flu free this winter.
