188th Gets a Visit from the Air Force Chief of Staff

By: Amanda Ashley
Updated: January 4, 2013
Efforts made by Arkansas lawmakers to save the 188th have landed the air base a high ranking visitor.

General Mark Welsh III, the chief of staff for the Air Force will visit the Fort Smith based Fighter Wing on January 18th.

U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, Congressmen Rick Crawford (AR-1), Tim Griffin (AR-2), Steve Womack (AR-3), and Tom Cotton (AR-4) sent a letter to Gen. Welsh in November inviting him to visit the 188th to check out the capabilities, readiness level and airspace and facilities provided at the Air Base.  They hope this will help keep the 188th up and running when the Air Force makes decisions about modernization efforts.
