New Power Plant In Elkins Receives Cheers And Jeers

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
The city of Elkins has experienced some problems with their electric power supply during peak hours of the Summer months. Now, city officials want to build a power plant that could take care of that. During those peak hours residents in Elkins will often experience "brown outs." Brown outs are periods of reduced power that cause lights to dim or flicker. The addition of a new power plant will solve that problem and allow the city to be prepared for the growth of industry. However, residents neighboring the site where the plant would go in are a little concerned about noise and pollution. Elkins Mayor Jack Ladyman says the plant will be powered by natural gas. Natural gas is the cleanest form of fuel, according to Ladyman, and therefor worries of pollution can be put to rest.
