Mother Nature put a damper on the opening weekend at Oaklawn.

All the rain gave racing horses the day off in Hot Springs.Track officials said a clogged drain overflowed, leaving too much moisture on the track, forcing Oaklawn to cancel all live races Saturday and Sunday.

Crews are working to fill the hole and said they plan to re-open next Thursday, but it is still a disappointment for folks who made the trek to the track for opening weekend.

"We were just getting here when they did that. We saw everyone leaving and we thought, 'well, we'll go and check it out anyway.' We're having a good time anyway. We're doing the simulcast racing and trying to make the best of it," said Marla Webb who drove from Fayettelle for opening weekend

The live racing canceled for the weekend, but Oaklawn is showing other races so folks still have some entertainment!
