Number Ten: Rottweiler
This strong and powerful working dog has grown in popularity over the years. This breed seems fierce at times, but they are intelligent, obedient animals that are great protectors.
Number Nine: Dachshund
This pint sized breed is lively and playful, known to be excellent hunters. Their adaptability and love for children makes them great family pets.
Number Eight: Poodle
The poodle has been on most popular breed lists for years, probably because of it's hypoallergenic coat and good looks.
Number Seven: Boxer
Boxers are great with children and the breed is protective and patient. The boxer was developed in the 19th century for dog fighting, of course these days they're for companionship, not fighting.
Number Six: Bulldog
This breed is a popular mascot, known for their short legs, smushed face and for their slobber. They're excellent family pets, being gentle, protective and easy to groom.
Number Five: Yorkshire Terrier
This petite pup is celebrated for its large personality. They hail from the English city they are named for. Yorkies are desired for their portability, adaptability and lasting energy.
Number Four: Golden Retriever
This classic American pet is of the sporting breed. They are active, friendly, beautiful and versatile, often acting as a guide or search-and-rescue dogs. Their even temper and playful attitude make for a great family pet.
Number Three: Beagle
The Beagle is a happy pup that enjoys the company of other dogs and humans, even if its prone to follow its nose to mischief from time to time.
Number Two: German Shepherd
The German Shepherd is an excellent companion dog and often used in service either as a police or military dog. Time magazine even named a German Shepherd its distinguished "Animal of the Year" for helping take down Osama Bin Laden with SEAL Team Six.
Number One: Labrador Retriever
Gentle, friendly, and family-oriented, the Lab has been America's most popular dog breed for more than twenty years. These pups are active, trustworthy and adorable and they make great hunting dogs as they are easily trainable.
