New numbers released Friday show Arkansas' Unemployment Rate up for the month of December.

The Department of Workforce services say the unemployment rate rose to 7.1 percent last month, up from 7 percent in November.

DWS spokesperson Kim Friedman says the state lost 5,400 jobs, mostly in the leisure and hospitality industry.

Even with the increase, unemployment in Arkansas is lower than last year's numbers, as well as the national average which stayed steady at 7.8 percent in December.
