Multi-Million Dollar Project Saving Lives

A multi-million dollar project in Northwest Arkansas is already proving its value.

Cable barriers were installed along Interstate-540 from Fayetteville to Bentonville last summer.

According to Dick Trammel with the Arkansas State Highway Commission, the barriers have already been hit more than 70 times in the last six months.

"We've already spent about $50,000 for repairs on the barrier... If it has been hit 70 times, I'm going to guess we've saved 5 or 6 lives and it's worth every penny of it."

The 28-miles of barriers rang in at around $5.1 million dollars, but Trammel wants folks to recognize how improving safety is priceless.
