Fort Smith police have made an arrest in a rape that happened more than 10 years ago.

On August 24, 2002, a thirty-one-year old female resident of Fort Smith reported being raped by an unknown white male. The victim reported told police he offered her a ride as she walked down Rogers Avenue then took her to an unfamiliar location where she was beaten and raped.

DNA evidence was collected during the investigation but no matches were found. Fort Smith Police would develop no additional leads until October of 2012.

In March, Leroy Eugene King, 43, arrested for Kidnapping and Domestic Violence in Leflore County, Oklahoma. During this investigation, Investigators obtained Mr. King's DNA which was found to match the DNA from the 2002 case.

On January 18, King was arrested on the outstanding Rape warrant by Fort Smith SWAT during a traffic stop near the intersection of Lexington and South G Street. He is currently being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center.
