Walmart Tighten Fire Regulations

By: News Staff
Updated: January 22, 2013

Walmart says it is toughening rules for suppliers who violate global sourcing standards.

It says it has a "zero tolerance" policy after a deadly fire last November at a factory in Bangladesh. Walmart says one of it suppliers there had outsourced work to a different factory without permission. The retailer says it conducts audits every year on factories that supply goods to their stores.

In the past, the company gave suppliers three chances to fix any problems. Now they say, starting March first, they will stop working with any suppliers that don't comply.
