AR Receives Mostly Passing Grades in Tobacco Report

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
The American Lung Association State of Tobacco Control 2006 report graded the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico in four categories: smokefree air, tobacco taxes, prevention funding and restrictions on youth access to tobacco products. For the second year in a row, Maine was the only state to earn "A" grades in all four categories. Arkansas received an "A" for smokefree air, a "C" for youth access, an "A" for tobacco prevention and control spending, and a "D" for cigarette tax. The American Lung Association recognized Arkansas for passing a smokefree air law that protects most workers from secondhand smoke and continuing to fund its successful tobacco prevention program at above 90 percent of the CDC recommended minimum level.
