A bill that would eliminate mandatory parole requirements for those convicted for sex offenders gets the OK from a State Senate Committee.

The bill would give the Arkansas Parole Board the discretion to deny parole for those convicted who are required to register for sex offenses.

As the law currently stands, some offenses require an automatic parole after a certain amount of time behind bars.

The Senate Judiciary Committee gave a "Do Pass" recommendation with no objections to the bill.
