1. What is the WATCH D.O.G.S. program about?

WATCH D.O.G.S.  (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program focusing on education and safety in schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures to provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security and to provide positive and active male role-models for the students.

2. Who are WatchDOGs?

Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles or any positive male role model are asked to spend at least one day working as a volunteer during the school year.

3. When did WATCH D.O.G.S. begin?

WATCH D.O.G.S. began in 1998 at George Elementary here in Springdale, AR

4. How many programs are there?

WATCH D.O.G.S. programs are in 2,700 schools and 46 states currently across the nation, Mexico and Puerto Rico

5. How many programs in Arkansas? Other States?

WATCH D.O.G.S. programs are in 212 schools around the state of Arkansas, 713 schools have the program in the state of Texas and 224 schools have the program in the state of Washington

6. The purpose of WATCH D.O.G.S. is to...

1) ...provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their very presence that education is important, and (2) to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

7. Why is there a program like this?

Because many Dads need an onramp to simply get started participating in their local school.

8. What does a WatchDOG do?

They support the school through monitoring the school property and working alongside the teachers in the classroom, the hallways, the lunchroom and on the playground. They help with reading, writing and arithmetic. They are great as homework facilitators and recess referees. They will also provide listening ears and whatever else needs to be done in order to help the teacher's plant seeds of success in the lives of the students.

9. Has the program received any National Recognition?

Each year the WATCH D.O.G.S. program is receiving more and more great endorsements. One of our most recent comes from the President's Advisory Council where they listed the WATCH D.O.G.S. program in the March 2010 report to the President. Another great endorsement comes from our partners at the National PTA organization and our alliance with their M.O.R.E. program (Men Organized to Raise Engagement). And to round out the list of recent endorsements, US Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan visited a local WATCH D.O.G.S. program in the DC area in June 2011 to encourage fathers and father figures to become more active in the educational system and to get a firsthand glimpse of this dynamic program in action.

10. How can I become a WatchDOG?

Contact your local school to see if they already have a program in place or go to our website at www.fathers.com/watchdogs<http://www.fathers.com/watchdogs> to get more information about starting the program at your school.
