20-Week Abortion Ban Now on Governor's Desk

By: Lisa Mendenhall
Updated: February 21, 2013

The Arkansas House passed the 20-week abortion ban 80-10 Thursday.

The bill now goes to Governor Beebe's desk.

Representative Andy Mayberry cites data that less than two percent of abortions occur that late, but he adds the bill will only make exceptions for the health or life of the mother, not for rape or incest.

Governor Mike Beebe says he still has constitutional concerns with the legislation but has not decided whether he will use his veto power.

The House also passed the 12-week abortion ban, 68-20.

That bill will go back to the Senate for a quick vote before it heads to the governor's desk.
