Arkansas State Flag Celebrates 100 Years

Updated: February 26, 2013
The Arkansas State flag is celebrating a milestone today, its 100th birthday!

Kerry McCoy with Arkansas Flag & Banner says our state flag design is very simple -- with specific focus on the diamond.
Everything represents something, for example -- the 25 stars mean Arkansas was the 25th state to join the union, but what you see today -- wasn't the original design.

"She didn't have the word Arkansas & she had these 3 stars -- in a straight row -- Spain, France and the United States," said McCoy.

Speaking of, the four stars inside the current flag diamond represent the four countries Arkansas belongs to; Spain, France, the United States and the Confederate States of America.
