Updated: March 1, 2013
Fayetteville Police arrested a man Thursday accused of severely neglecting his dog.
54-year-old WIlliam McClure faces one charge of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.
The arrest resulted from a February 5 investigation by Fayetteville Animal Control Officers. They were contacted by McClure's neighbors who were concerned about the condition of a dog in McClure's back yard.
There, they say they found a young dog with severe hair loss and open wounds on its face and body.
The investigation revealed that the dog also had severe mange and had not received any veterinary care.
The dog was taken to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter for veterinary treatment.
They estimate the dog will need at least six weeks of treatment but they say it should make a full recovery.
Shelter staff have named the dog Ace. He will be up for adoption once his treatment is complete.
McClure was released from Washington County Jail Friday on $480 bond.
