Man Worries About Dynamite Blasts Near His Home

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
The city of Fayetteville has spent months working to install a new sewer line on the outskirts of town, but in doing that they may be damaging homes. Carl Brooks lives less than 200 yards from the new line and says the whole area is built on a solid rock slab. Meaning, workers must use dynamite to clear out that rock and the blasts have Brooks more than a little worried. He says it`s the foundation of his home that concerns him. The rock slab it`s built on acts as a sort of tuning fork and vibrations from dynamite explosions rock his house quite badly. Officials assure him there is no danger, but he wants them to go to every home in the area and make sure that`s true. So far city officials have been very sympathetic to Brooks` situation, but according to the man whose lived on that land for twenty years, nothing has been done about the blasting. Brooks says city officials and contractors are ignoring their responsibility.
