The bill, introduced by Rep. Steve King (R-IA), would not only declare English as the official language of the United States, but establish a uniform English language rule for the naturalization of immigrants.
The legislation also requires that all government functions be conducted in English, with protections provided for documents protecting public health and safety and actions protecting the rights of crime victims and criminal defendants.
