Church Honors Firefighters

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
On that cold January 31st morning, over 30 Fayetteville firefighters worked for hours to put out the massive flames engulfing the church`s main sanctuary. To show their appreciation for all the hard work those firefighters did that day, church members invited them to lunch. "They fed us and let us listen to the sermon and it was very nice," said Fire Captain Barry Cox. "They were just so excellent in their service that day, they were here, it was very cold...they`re just a really good group of guys and we really appreciate all they`ve done for our church," said church member Tracy Bratton. The church also presented them with a special plaque and a picture signed by members of the youth group. "We really appreciate them having us out here and doing all these nice things for us, we did our best at the fire and it`s nice when somebody says thank you," Cox said. As for what`s next for the church, Senior Pastor Darren Rogers says he`s working things out with the insurance company and hopes to demolish the building within the next month, so they can start to rebuild. "We`re thankful they`re there, we just don`t think a lot about it and there`s not nearly enough said about our firemen and policemen," Rogers said.
