Vandals broke windows at several Rogers area schools and businesses earlier this week and by the middle of the week police arrested seven juveniles in connection with the crimes. Thursday the final suspect found himself in police custody and charged with some very serious offenses. The sixteen year old boy will received similar charges to the other seven suspects, but also faces charges of engaging in a continuing criminal gang, organization or enterprise as well as recruiting a minor to join or remain a member of a criminal gang, organization or enterprise. Both charges are felonies.
A sixteen year old charged as a ring leader of sorts leaves some Rogers residents wondering how a kid so young can end up facing such serious charges. Linda Haley works as a youth counselor in the city and she says peer pressure has a lot to do with why teens get caught up in negative activities, but also says its much worse when parents arent actively involved in their childrens lives.
If you feel youre starting to lose control of a child in your care and dont know where to turn, Haley says you can call a local court to find out about setting up whats called "A Family In Need Of Services" action. A probation officer will pay a visit to the child and try and find a better route for them that, hopefully, wont lead to jail
