When looking at new cars, its the largest number you see: the gas mileage estimates. Nowadays with the bitter battle of global warming, and the overall quest for better fuel efficiency, the auto alliance in Washington DC is lobbying to sway you and me with this full page ad from Sundays Democrat Gazette. The ad reads, "Say no to extreme fuel economy increases." The ad also lists businessmen and women from Arkansas who feel very strongly about the legislation. Heres how it breaks down: The proposed bill, Senate Bill 1419 would enforce fuel efficiency standards on some very popular vehicles that are used in our state, such as tractor trailers, trucks, minivans, and large SUVs - making it virtually impossible for car manufacturers to keep up. Theres also the possibility of many cars not being made any more because this transformation would cost in the hundreds of billions for car makers. We spoke with Charlie Territo, the director of communications with The Alliance, and he says they are for legislation, just not this one. He adds, "this is too much, too soon."
