breaking news
On Wednesday, the Arkansas Health Department released Washington Countys health profile. From the report, after a steady downward trend for heart disease deaths, between 2002 and 2004, heart disease deaths rose to 155 per 100,000 people in population. But, in the grand scheme of things, the mortality rates for heart disease are lower than in other states. However, the health department does note that the death rates are higher among African Americans than Whites.
As far as cancer rates are concerned, some good news: a downward trend. Fewer people are dying from cancer, since 1990. Cancer mortality rates in Washington County have consistently been lower than state rates....
But as of 2004, lung cancer is the most common among those in Washington County. Prostate cancer rates in Washington County are higher than the rest of the state.
Do you know your blood pressure?
The overall prevalence of high blood pressure in Arkansas was 29 percent in 2005. This is higher than the national rate of 26 percent for the same year.
