The Benton County Sheriffs Office is requesting more manpower. The three positions they are asking for are: a narcotics investigator, immigration and gangs sergeant and one jail sergeant for gang intelligence.
The Sheriffs Office hopes these positions will help in their efforts to crack down on gang, illegal immigration and drug problems in the county. Sheriff Keith Ferguson said all these issues go hand in hand.
Benton Countys drug division is swamped and many times it takes months and a lot of manpower to handle the cases, according to Sheriff Ferguson.
Benton County applied for the 287-g program in April and is waiting to hear back from the Federal Government for approval. In the mean time, Sheriff Ferguson told us Benton County is overwhelmed with drug and gang problems and needs to take action before its too late.
