A warning for anyone who uses hand sanitizer and has children at home. It turns out the powerful germ killer can also be a dangerous poison in unsupervised hands because of its high alcohol content. At about 125 proof, its more potent than moonshine. Its a powerful germ killer that really works, but these alcohol-based hand sanitizers can also be dangerous. "They dont have to ingest a whole lot to get in big trouble really quickly," explains Dr. Marjorie Milici, who works at Baylor Hospital. Doctors like Marjorie Milici are issuing a warning after numerous young children across the country ending up in emergency rooms after ingesting small amounts of the cleanser. "Its concentrated alcohol in here, and a little bit can do a lot of damage," Milici says. She points out with an alcohol content of 62% to 90%, when ingested severe alcohol poisoning becomes a reality.
