Flint Creek could soon become nothing more than a dry ditch according to some Siloam Springs residents. Some homeowners living along the creek south of Siloam Springs City Lake say a power plant operated by SWEPCO and AEP is responsible for pumping too much water from the lake and causing water levels in the stream south of the it to drop dramatically. In addition to low water levels, people living in the area tell KNWA that unusual algae growth and dead fish also point to irresponsibility by the power plant operators.
Farmers use Flint Creek to water livestock and irrigate crops according to reports and those farmers fear that a company request to pump even more water from the Siloam lake may make the creek running through it useless to them. Representatives for the power plant couldn’t be reached by phone for comment on Tuesday.
