Access to dozens of surveillance camera is just a click away for Bentonville school administrators. At Bentonville High School the old analog cameras have been converted and new IP cameras have been added. Network administrator Keith Line said the Bentonville school district began building the infrastructure to support this system in 1999. The system consists of 20 miles of fiber optic cable that help transfer video from more than 10 servers. The video servers can be accessed off campus through an extra connection and password. School administrators can log on from their office and watch the hallways and exits in real time. Line said the system can prevent students from misbehaving because they know theyre being watched. He also said since the cameras can be accessed away from the school, the system will be extremely useful if there ever was an attack on campus. "The police department would have access with this system at the police department headquarters and they would be able to monitor in live time from the police headquarters and be able to direct officers in a safe manner," said Line.
