A former Bella Vista Police officer who pleaded guilty to negligent homicide can still work in law enforcement in the natural state.

The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training has voted against stripping away the certification of Coleman Brackney.

Brackney shot and killed James Ahern in 2010 after a high speed chase, and police chief Ken Farmer says the officer was fired after criminal charges were filed against him.

However, the chief says he didn't make any recommendation to the commission about Brackney's certification.
