We've got a couple of birthday shout outs, and President Obama captivated the country Wednesday.
Frank Zamboni
Wednesday is Frank Zamboni's 112th birthday and in his honor, Google has created an interactive doodle. Frank Zamboni invented the ice resurfacing machine in 1949 that is used during hockey game half times.
Aaliyah
Another birthday, singer Aaliyah would have turned 34 today. It's been eleven years since the young entertainer was killed in a plane crash along with eight others after filming a music video.
Manti Te'o
Manti Te'o is reportedly the victim of a terrible prank. After losing his grandmother, Te'o's online girlfriend also died. Now, it's coming out that the girlfriend never actually existed and that Te'o was targeted in a hoax.
Obama on Guns
President Obama has signed a list of 23 executive orders Wednesday, all aimed at reducing gun violence in the US. The president was surrounded by 4 children who wrote letters to him following last month's Connecticut School massacre. He says the orders, which do not require congressional approval, will expand school safety programs and increase access to mental health services. The proposals were compiled by a "task force" led by vice-president Joe Biden.
Hostages in Algeria
Some Americans are among more than 40 hostages seized by militants at a gas field in Algeria. Islamists targeted a bus carrying passengers from a base at the gas field to an airport. At least two people were killed and six others injured. US officials confirmed Americans were among the hostages, but would not say how many were taken.
