Little Rock, Fort Smith on "Most Dangerous Cities" List

Updated: February 7, 2013
New crime statistics place some Arkansas cities in "most dangerous" territory.

Metro Crime Rate Rankings for 2012 put Pine Bluff in the number two spot out of 358 metropolitan areas, just one notch behind the Detroit, Michigan area.

Little Rock is not far behind at number eight.

The national rankings are part of the annual publication of City Crime Rankings 2012-2013: Crime in Metropolitan America, published by Washington-based CQ Press.

The rankings are calculated using six basic crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.

CQ Press says the incidence of crime is of real concern to millions of Americans, and the rankings help them better understand what is happening in their communities.

Other Arkansas metro areas rank as follows:
184. Fort Smith, AR-OK
244. Jonesboro
343. Texarkana, TX-AR
351. Little Rock
355. Memphis TN-MS-AR
357. Pine Bluff
358. Detroit, Livonia, Dearborn, MI

Two metro areas in Utah (Logan and Provo-Orem) ranked as safest in that survey.
