Scotty McCreery went from North Carolina high school student to American Idol season 10 winner in a matter of months. Now he's sending out his debut album, and the short time span is no coincidence.
Scotty says "Clear as Day" gives a clear picture of who he is as an artist.
"I was the senior in high school for Idol and now I'm the freshman in college in country music world so I've got to work hard and try to establish myself with this first album," explains McCreery. "I sat with the producer and said I want to have that traditional sound but we have to keep it fresh and I think through the songs and the production we've done that."
But he's still a North Carolina high school student, who just celebrated his 18th birthday. And although he did that with a record release party, he says the kids at home don't treat him any differently.
"They treated me like I'd never left," says McCreery. "I think I was singing walking down the hallway in school and one of my friends said stop singing! Get to class! He was just joking so it's fun to see that."
