The rate dropped from around 16 percent in 2003-2004 to 14.5 percent in 2004-2005, but even though the state poverty number has declined, children living in poverty still sits above the national average . The report shows Arkansas` child poverty rate is at a little over 20 percent while the national average is around 17.7 percent. That means almost one in every five kids in the state lives in poverty.
