Less Americans Turning on the Tube

By: Amanda Ashley
Updated: May 4, 2012
The number of American households with access to a television set and a TV signal has shrunk for the second year in a row.

On Thursday, ratings researcher The Nielsen Company released thier 2013 Television Household Universe Estimates reports - and those estimates?  Are down.  According to a New York Times article, there are 114.1 million TV homes - a slip from the 114.7 million in 2011.

The number of people watching television has also dropped a reported 100,000 - not much when you consider there's still about 289 million tuning in.

But the biggest drop came in the amount of time teenagers spend in front of the screen. According to the Times article, they spend around 100 hours each month watching, down from 105 hours a month in 2011.
