Holiday Shopping Results

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
It seems the advertisements and bargain prices paid off...retailers on the whole had a very busy and very profitable "Black Friday." Early estimates show shoppers spent almost 9-billion dollars in one day, with toys and electronics taking the trophy for top sellers. The National Retail Federation predicted about 137-million shoppers would brave the crowds this holiday weekend. But not everyone is celebrating, Wal-Mart, who began marketing their seasonal deals well in advance of "Black Friday," expects to post a point-one percent loss in overall sales from this time last year. Retailers at the Northwest Arkansas Mall say local shoppers weren`t afraid to spend. "We were pretty busy throughout the whole day," said Vanity employee Lindsey Bailey. Some store managers did admit that sharing shoppers with the new Pinnacle Hills Promenade has had an impact on sales. "It`s changed things a bit, but I think this is a family mall, it`s indoors and you don`t have to deal with the weather and the wind and the cold and the heat during the summer, so I think we`ll hold our own," said Tradehome Shoes Manager Shane Keirsey.
