The Black Stallion Jumps Off the Page for Springdale Students

Literacy came to life Thursday for some Springdale Students at the Pauline Whitaker Equine Pavillion.
Fourth graders in the 2012 Horse Tails program were treated to a live performance of The Black Stallion, complete with live horses and actors in full costume.
The kids are reading the book this semester, and Laura Graves, the regional director of The Black Stallion Literacy Project, believes the show turns the story into something the kids never forget.
"Reading is the cornerstone for success," she says. "If we teach children to read without having them enjoy reading then we've missed the forest for the trees."
Graves says the program is offered nationwide, but Arkansas' is the second biggest, just behind the original, which started in Florida.
