Updated: April 17, 2007
According to Arkansas State Police Director Colonel Steve Dozier, 51 people have been killed on Arkansas streets and highways during the Christmas and New Year`s holiday in the past five years, and 20 of those deaths involved someone who was impaired by alcohol or drugs. Driving with a BAC of .08 or higher is illegal in most states. According to the FBI`s Uniform Crime Report, more than 1.3 million people were arrested during 2005 for driving under the influence. Nearly 13,000 people were killed last year as the result of highway crashes involving impaired drivers with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) of .08 or higher.
