Georgia Blasts Razorback Women

ATHENS,
Ga. - The University of Arkansas got eight points each from
Dominique Wilson and Erin Gatling but it wasn't enough as they fell 66-34 at No.
13/12 Georgia in Athens, Ga., Thursday.
Arkansas (17-9, 5-8 SEC) got out of the
gates with a slow start and committed 23 turnovers while shooting a season-low
and tying a program low in an SEC game 34 points in the
loss.
"Well clearly we are disappointed," said
Arkansas head coach Tom Collen. "This was a game we feel like we were really
well prepared for and we let it get away. We are going to have to regroup and
come out strong in the rest of the games as we near the end of our regular
season."
The first half was a struggle for the
Razorbacks as cold shooting and turnovers quickly took their toll. Georgia
stretched the lead to 14 at the halfway point and Arkansas was not able to
recover.
The Razorbacks scored just 16 points in the
first 20 minutes, the second lowest scoring performance against an SEC opponent
this season. Fourteen first-frame turnovers by the Razorbacks allowed the
Bulldogs some easy looks and they made the most of them, shooting 45 percent on
13-for-29 in the opening half.
Arkansas got eight points from Gatling but
shot just 32 percent hitting just seven field goals in the opening
stanza.
The second half opened in much the same
fashion with the Razorbacks committing four quick turnovers allowing Georgia to
score.
For the game, Arkansas shot just 26 percent
on 14-of-53 from the floor. The Razorbacks got to the foul line just six times
hitting four bonus shots on the night.
In addition to Gatling and Wilson, Arkansas
got scoring from Quistelle Williams with six points, while Keira Peak and
Melissa Wolff had four each. Collen played nine players getting good minutes
for several underclassmen. It was the first game this season in which Arkansas
did not have a player in double figures.
The Razorbacks return to action hosting
#11/10 Tennessee Sunday at 1 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena.
