Arkansas redshirt freshman Tyler Spoon is off to a hot start in his first season with the Diamond Hogs.  The Van Buren, Arkansas native is second on the team in batting avearage hitting .367.  He leads the team with two homeruns and thirteen RBI helping the Razorbacks to a 7-1 record heading into Arizona.

The fast start for spoon has also led to phrase #Spoonsanity taking off after junior second baseman Dominic Ficociello coined the phrase in fall ball on his twitter account.

"We started that in the fall and we were hoping it was going to catch on before the season started but he kind of helped himself out for that grand slam," Ficociello said.  "That kind of put the icing on the cake in my opinion."

Others on the team are also taking note and say they love the publicity for Spoon and hope he continues to lead the team for the rest of the season.

"We give him a lot of flack. It is great. If it is taking off that means he is driving in runs and hitting good and that is all I care about," senior outfielder Matt Vinson says.  "If Spoonsanity is taking off let it take off and him hit 30 bombs I dont care."

All of the love for the Hog right fielder is warranted with Spoon also being a natural leader for this team on and off the field.

"You won't find a better guy than Tyler Spoon," Ficociello said.  "The fact that he is playing as well as he is too is just a blessing to this team."

Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn enjoys what Spoon brings to his team. "He is very humble. I think he is appreciative that he is starting and he comes and shows up everyday and works hard."

Spoon and the Razorbacks begin a four game road trip to Surprise, Arizona on Thursday playing aagainst Arizona State on Thursday and Saturday at 5 p.m.  The Hogs also play Gonzaga on Friday at 5 p.m. and Pacific on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Razorback Nation is in Arizona for the Coca-Cola Classic and will bring you cover of Spoon and the second ranked Diamond Hogs all weekend long.
