Frank Broyles came to the University of Arkansas after serving as head coach at the University of Missouri, taking the head coaching job here and beginning what would be a long and successful career.
Broyles joined the Razorbacks as head coach in December of 1957, and served as head coach for 19 seasons, winning 144 games, losing 58 and tying 5.
In 1964 he led the Razorbacks to victory in all of its 11 regular season games, going on to beat Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl.
Under Broyles the hogs won 22 straight games in the mid-1960`s-- beginning at the end of the 1963 season and stretching to the 1966 Cotton Bowl. It was the longest college football winning streak of the decade.
As Arkansas` head coach Broyles collected 7 Southwest Conference Championships and played in 10 bowl games.
In 1973 Broyles was named athletic director.
Since that time the Razorbacks have collected 43 National Championships...57 Southwest Conference Championships....and 46 Southeastern Conference Championships.
Broyles also made an impact outside of football-- raising nearly $230-million for renovation and construction projects for basketball, track and field and baseball.
In 2003 he took over as chairman of the university`s Campaign for the 21-st Century-- which raised 1-billion-dollars.
Over the years Broyles has received numerous awards...Even having an award established in his name-- the Broyles Award for division one-a assistant football coaches.
