The F.D.A says the most recent pet food recall wasn't caused by wheat gluten, but by rice proteins. The Food and Drug Administration says it found melamine in rice protein imported from China, which was used in pet food for five U.S. companies. Melamine is the same chemical that caused the Menu Brand pet food recall. Tuesday, Natural Balance Pet Foods recalled its venison-based products, which tested positive for the rice protein. The other four companies have yet to recall their pet food, and have not been named.
