breaking news
On the evening of July 9th, 2004, a small boy fell asleep, unaware his mother was about to be sent to the hospital and his father would become a fugitive. While the boy slept, deputies say his father, Johnny Hernandez, broke into the house armed with a shotgun. Inside, his wife Corina Arenas shut herself in a closet while her brother confronted Hernandez. Deputies say that’s when Hernandez shot him in the buttocks.
Then, Hernandez found his wife in the closet and demanded to know where she was hiding their son. When she refused to tell him, Deputies say Hernandez shot her in the stomach. Deputies say he quickly found his son and ran, taking the boy with him. Two days later Hernandez sister returned the toddler to his mother, but Hernandez was still on the run.
Prosecutors believe he ran to California for a while, but an anonymous caller told prosecutors Hernandez had returned last year and was working at a construction site in Rogers. Thats when deputies arrested Hernandez and Friday he pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted capital murder.
