One Arkansas college may be making some changes after a committee decides the schools mascot has to go. The chancellor of Arkansas State University will give the final go ahead before the ASU Indian is retired, but some Native Americans believe the change is long overdue. One Quapaw tribe member we spoke to says that American Indians have fought hard to overcome connotations depicted by many sport mascots and points out that no other race has to fight similar battles. In 2005 the NCAA announced a ban on ethnically or racially "hostile" or "abusive" nicknames, mascots and imagery at championship events.
