Bella Vista police say a pipe bomb exploded near a local church. Someone dropped a bomb in a trash dumpster outside of the Bella Vista Christian Church Monday afternoon. Police arrived while trash inside the dumpster continued to burn. Firefighters put out the flames. Crews evacuated the building. The Springdale bomb squad investigated. They say a pipe bomb caused the explosion. Police collected a metal pipe and two end caps near the dumpster.
Church member Linda White said the situation could have been worse.
"It makes us think, because all morning our people had been using the dumpster. Our janitor was getting ready to go out and I really feel like it would have hurt somebody or killed them. I fell like the Lord was really with us for this." White said.
No suspects have been name and the evidence has been sent to the Arkansas crime lab.
