President Bushs immigration reform bill was defeated Thursday in the Senate and now Arkansas lawmakers are reacting. Senator Mark Pryor says hes not surprised the bill didnt make it because, as a spokesperson for the senator told KNWA, the bill was inadequate. Pryor says enforcement at the borders and harsher punishments for companies that employ illegal immigrants is the best way to tackle the issue. Senator Blanche Lincoln released a statement today calling for the same thing and expressing frustration that the Senate was unable to move forward on Thursday.
Experts say theres little hope the bill will be revived during the remainder of George Bushs presidency and Mark Pryor says hell press the president to better enforce current immigration laws.
