breaking news
27-year-old Jeremy Abner, from Pocola, drowned in a small pond just southeast of Cameron, and officials say alcohol may have caused it.
Officials found Jeremy Abner at the bottom of this farm pond on Archey Road. Abner’s friend, Janet Stewart, says they spent the day fishing and swimming together. She says she let him try on her son’s ring. He jumped in the water, lost the ring, and then they both went in looking for it.
Stewart says, "I kept going under and coming up, going under and coming up and then I come up, and I couldnt find him and I started yelling for him."
Now friends and family are mourning Abner’s death.
Linh Phan, a close friend, says "He was just a real rambunctious person, always going. He never liked to sit down."
Stewart explains, "He was just so full of life. He was the one that was the life of the party."
Officials say alcohol may have played a role, but friends say, they don’t understand how this could have happened.
Phan says, "We always went swimming every summer, fishing all the time. I just dont see him drowning in a six foot pond, but you know stuff happens. You know Ive drank with Jeremy too. I mean he does drink, but even then, six foot deep, I dont know."
Stewart wants to know, "Could it have been snakes, was it just cramping? I want to know that he didnt hurt. I want to know that he was…I want him back."
Family and friends say they’re still waiting for autopsy results.
