Just last month Promenade Boulevard looked more like a pond than a road. Engineers put in earth-made dams and silt fencing to prevent the road from flooding again, but it didn't work. Tuesday night one of the dams gave way and Promenade Boulevard flooded again. "What happened was the water was flowing down the partially built road. It wasn't able to get up in those inlets to flow into the drainage system and so that water went straight down to the streets," Planning and Transportation Director Steve Glass says. This time, road crews are installing a water inlet structure at the north east corner of the intersection, and building a 2-foot berm across the road with sandbags to divert water into a large pond. "So any water that's coming off the streets, coming down the hill off the street, will go into the detention pond and any water coming off the land will go into that 2 foot by 2 foot opening." Glass says when the roads are completely paved, flooding should not be an issue. "We don't expect there to be another problem, but we didn't expect there to be one the first time."
