So where will Eastern Oklahomas trash end up??
Sallisaw City Manager, Bill Baker, says not in his citys landfill, at least not yet.
Baker says the Sallisaw landfill is full. So, its expanding to make room for the extra garbage.
"Right now, we average about 230 tons a day. The contacts that we had for over 500 tons. Which would have lessened the length of our remaining life significantly" said Bill Baker.
Baker says Sallisaw wants to help cities find a place for their trash but, until the expansions done there just isnt room.
"we did not want to turn down the customers. We just didnt have the space." said Bill Baker.
But, soon space wont be a problem. The citys adding a new six and a half acre cell to its landfill.
Bill Baker says they are hoping to have the new cell ready to use by next summer.
